The abrasion performance of rubber depends on its cohesion and the adhesion of the friction surface, including the comprehensive impact of the tensile strength, elongation at break, fatigue resistance, viscoelasticity, etc. of the base material. It cannot be said that abrasion is related to a certain physical property in general.
The DIN abrasion test of rubber belongs to abrasion abrasion, which is a phenomenon that the rubber surface is micro-damaged and peeled off by friction. Under a certain load pressure, the rubber wheel of the rubber shoe sole forms a certain angle with the abrasive wheel, and carries out rotary rolling friction. Because of the friction of sharp points on the surface of the abrasive wheel, the rubber surface produces local stress concentration. At the stress concentration point, the rubber is strongly broken, forming small particles falling off and causing wear. When the sharp points on the surface of the sand wheel are very sharp, the rubber surface will be scratched, and there are also strips of marks parallel to the sliding direction. This is the feature of cutting wear and scratch wear, and is a manifestation of abrasion wear.
Test conditions:
High and low voltage insulating shoes (boots), acid and alkali resistant rubber boots and other protective shoes, their soles shall adopt the Akron abrasion test method specified in the standard. In order to obtain a high recurrence rate of the test results, the test conditions must be strict.
The test results show that the error of the included angle between the rubber wheel shaft and the grinding wheel shaft, the hardness of the rubber wheel, the thickness of the rubber base test piece, and the temperature of the test environment have certain influence on the test results.
The greater the angle between the rubber wheel shaft and the grinding wheel shaft, the greater the wear reduction. In addition, the hardness of rubber wheel increases, the thickness of test piece increases, and the increase of test temperature will also increase the wear loss.
Test procedure:
Pre-grind the bonded test wheel for 15~20min and then take it off. Brush the rubber crumbs and weigh it (accurate to 0.0019). Test with the pre-ground sample. After the sample has traveled 1.61km, take it off and brush the rubber crumbs and weigh it within 1h (accurate to 0.001g).
Several factors causing poor reproducibility of test results Through comparative analysis of various test conditions, we believe that the impact of instruments and equipment is major, especially the included angle between the rubber wheel shaft and the grinding wheel shaft and the load borne by the sample, which have a great impact on the test results.
