According to a report released by the European Tire and Rubber Manufacturers Association (ETRMA) on January 19, 2021 is a year of recovery for the European tire industry. Except for the agricultural tire part, the tire replacement market performed well last year.
In terms of tire types, OE sales of truck tires increased by 25% (year-on-year, the same below) to 5.83 million units; sales of replacement tires for passenger vehicles increased by 14% to 219.5 million units, of which quarterly tire sales increased by 35% to reach 5.83 million units. 28.17 million; motorcycle tires increased by 14%, and sales were close to 9.7 million.
However, agricultural tire sales fell 3% to 1.12 million units in 2021, including an 11% decline in the fourth quarter. In addition, affected by the shortage of chips in the automotive industry, OE sales of passenger car tires fell by 8% to 61.82 million.
Fazilet Cinaralp, Secretary General of ETRMA, said that with the development of automotive technology, mobility and regulatory policies, the automotive industry is rapidly transforming, and tire manufacturers face many opportunities.
She added: "The European tire industry has been resilient during the pandemic, and we look forward to this positive trend continuing and growth consolidating in 2022, returning to 2019 levels."
