However, there is still a gap between some high-end rubber materials and product technologies in China and the international advanced level, with a high dependence on imports. It is our unswerving goal and mission to achieve self-reliance and self-reliance in high level science and technology of rubber materials in China as soon as possible, and to make China a strong rubber country.
Tyres are typical rubber products. The Advanced Elastomer Material Research Center of the School of Materials Science and Engineering, Beijing University of Chemical Technology, focuses on major national needs and adheres to the deep integration of basic research results and new material technology accumulated over many years of research with the tire product technology of leading enterprises in the industry, successfully producing wear-resistant, fuel saving, and safe tires. The results won the second prize of the 2015 National Technological Invention Award. For high-end conveyor belts that have been "in service" under harsh conditions, the Research Center organized scientific and technological research, invented the design and preparation technology of special rubber materials for high-end conveyor belts, and developed large special conveyor belts for key industries such as metallurgy and mining. The achievements won the second prize of the 2019 National Science and Technology Progress Award.
In 2015, the research center originally created biodegradable polyester synthetic rubber and itaconic ester synthetic rubber, achieving thousands of tons of engineering and application development. These new structures and new performance rubber materials have been used in products such as tires, footwear, and masks, which can significantly reduce environmental pollution and achieve green development throughout the entire life cycle of rubber materials.
Over the past decade, our team has grown increasingly. Some have focused on rubber reinforcement theory, some have focused on high-performance rubber technology, some have focused on basic and original research, and some have done engineering and achievement transformation. We have established a full chain integrated innovation research team in the field of rubber materials, including basic science, application research, engineering technology, and industrialization of achievements.
Over the past decade, we have trained over a thousand graduates, who have embarked on a new journey in life with a passion for rubber research, confidence in tackling key technological issues and independent innovation, and the pride of builders and successors of the new era. They have gone to the places where the motherland needs most to spend their youth, gradually growing into leading talents in the field of rubber science and engineering, and are striving to be the first on the road to achieving the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
