Elastomeric rubber materials can be divided into two main categories - thermoset rubber and thermoplastic rubber.
Thermoplastic rubbers are blends of conventional vulcanized or unvulcanized thermoset rubbers such as epdm and rigid thermoplastics such as polypropylene or polystyrene. Thermoplastic rubbers can be divided into the following 3 basic groups:
Styrenic block copolymers (sbs, sebs and sis);
Thermoplastic/thermoset rubber blends (tpv, tpo, pvc/nitrile) - the thermoset rubber phase can be fully cured, partially cured or simply mechanically mixed;
And multi-stage copolymers, including mechanical blends (polyurethane/rubber blends, nylon/rubber blends, polyester/rubber blends).
Natural and synthetic thermoset rubbers including epdm, sbr, nbr and neoprene.
So usually vulcanized rubber is thermoplastic.
