The Italian tire manufacturer Pirelli participated in the CIIE for the second time. The technology exhibited at the first CIIE has become a product locally produced in China.
On November 5, Giuliano Menassi, CEO of Pirelli Asia Pacific, told reporters such as Jiemian News that at this year's CIIE, Pirelli demonstrated for the first time that the CYBER tire system was assembled on a mass-produced car.
The CYBER tire system refers to embedded sensors in the tires to help collect data during driving and connect with the software in the on-board computer to help the vehicle identify or predict potential hazards. At the exhibition site, the tire assembly equipped with the CYBER system was exhibited on the McLaren Artura model.
In the traditional situation, only the driver can feel the feeling of the vehicle driving on the road. In vehicles that rely on autonomous driving, it is necessary to collect driving information through tires. Giuliano said that the main function of the sensor is to collect some information on tires and the ground, just like the "touch" of a finger. "In the future, this technology will provide more help for autonomous driving."
Sensors provide information for vehicles and drivers, including tire type, prescribed tire pressure, load index, speed level, and information during driving, such as temperature and tire pressure.
According to Pirelli, this technology was exhibited at the first CIIE in 2018, but it was not installed in a mass-produced car. This year is the first time that the original factory is equipped, and the specific functions of the tires can be selected by the car manufacturer for different models. And definition. Giuliano told the interface reporter that Pirelli only brought technology when participating in the CIIE for the first time. All the exhibits seen at the booth this year have been locally produced in China. Giuliano mentioned that China is one of Pirelli's very important markets, and the company will continue to increase investment in China in the future.
According to Giuliano, 95% of Pirelli’s Asia-Pacific R&D center in Yanzhou, Shandong, China has been constructed and is expected to be fully operational next year.
In the future, the R&D center will mainly conduct product research and development for local needs. In July this year, many international tire companies began to increase prices in foreign markets, and recently the domestic market has also joined a wave of price increases. Facing the situation of high tire prices, Giuliano said that this year's tire price increase is mainly affected by the increase in prices of raw materials and energy. This is a cyclical fluctuation, so tire manufacturers will adjust accordingly.
