The length of the fatty acid carbon chain has no effect on its efficacy, and the softening effect of lauric acid and oleic acid is also very good. However, the high unsaturation of oleic acid will interfere with the rubber processing process, and oleic acid also has a tendency to increase rubber aging. The acid value of lauric acid is very high, which will greatly delay the vulcanization of rubber. The factory needs to change the formula and adjust the process parameters. Due to formulation constraints and consideration of certain parameters, companies basically only use stearic acid as a product.
In practical application, various application manufacturers and research institutions do not have a unified view on which specification of stearic acid to use: Regarding the content of C18: some think that a higher content should be used; some think that ordinary grades can be used. Regarding the iodine value: the lower the iodine value, the better. Regarding the acid value: the acid value of stearic acid should be controlled within a corresponding reasonable range, and the smaller the range value, the better. It is appropriate to control the acid value content at 205-211.
Although the research on the effect of stearic acid by domestic enterprises is not enough, the quality requirements of stearic acid have become higher and higher, especially with the increasing output of radial tires, in order to adapt to various road conditions, the quality requirements of tires are becoming more and more important. The stricter, the quality requirements for various raw materials (including stearic acid) are also increasing. The same is true for normal bias tires.
